You’ve articulated your True North.
You’ve nailed your Plan on the Page.
You’ve decided your big Rocks for the quarter.
You’ve probably even made them SMART.
What now?
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
The success of your plan—and ultimately your business—comes down to your team’s ability to deliver the small, focused actions that, over time, will take you where you want to be.
To make consistent movement forward in the right direction.
Creating goals is key to achieving your Rocks:
- Create clarity – Get clear about what you want to achieve and by when.
- Break it down into ‘bite-size’ chunks—things that will happen daily or weekly and by a specific date.
- Accountability – Agree on who will take each task. Play to your strengths and delegate or find someone else to do anything that isn’t.
- Review – Check weekly to ensure you are on track and adjust where needed. Things will come up, and along the way you will learn things that you don’t know right now. Embrace new information as an opportunity.
- Celebrate the small wins – Any ‘Big Hairy Audacious Goal’ will take some time. Celebrating the wins along the way will help re-energise your movement forward.
You don’t have to just take our word for it—a PWC study of more than 1.5 million goals self-reported by 12,000 employees at companies in various industries found that people who set at least four daily goals per week were 34% more likely to hit their KPI targets than those who didn’t.
They also found that people who set more goals not only perform better but also feel better about their work. That’s a win-win, right?
